Division 2 Play Off :ALGON BOYS Narrowly Misses Division 1 Promotion
ALGON BOYS FC fails to pick promotional ticket to the Nationwide Division 1 as they lost to Aspire FC of Anambra by a goal to nil.
An 86th minute strike from Hassan Abubakar was all the Aspire needed to gain promotion.
In a tension filled match, Algon Boys forward Nelson had an opportunity in the 25th minute to put the team in front but his effort goes an inches wide.
At the half hour mark, Ezenwa Ifeanyi was booked for a foul on an Aspire FC player, that hindered him from discharging his duties.
Jackson Samuel heads wide from Edoho's cross in the 32nd minute.
Goalkeeper of Aspire FC was called to action when he grabbed Iyang Nelson's header.
Aspire FC had the opportunity to open scoring when John Bassey's shot in the 45th minute hit the woodwork.
The first half ended goalless despite scoring opportunities made by Algon Boys, as they were the better side.
At the start of the second half, Goalkeeper of Algon Boys Chris Ubi went into the referee's book as he was adjudged to have handled the ball outside the box.
With scoring chances missed by the team, Coach of Algon Magnus made substitutions as the likes of Obot, Iyang David came in but didn't amount to anything as the boys were looking set to play penalties when Hassan Abubakar struck with less than four minutes remaining.
It will be recalled that this is ALGON BOYS FC first campaign in the NLO 2 and would have love to make a mark, but will pick positive lessons and come back strong and better.
