COSAWA Donates Food, Toilatries, Cash To Ophanages In A'Ibom Senatorial Districts

In the spirit of celebration, orphans in Akwa Ibom State were not left out as Commissioners and Special Advisers Wives Association (COSAWA), visited selected motherless Babies home in the three Senatorial Districts of the State with gift items to celebrate the season.


The kind gesture which took place on Monday, 30 December,2019 had God's Liberty Home, Eyulor Street, Oron,  the Salvation Army Children's Home, Ikai Ubuim, Nsit Ubuim Local Government Area and the Holy Family Sisters of the needy Home for the motherless Babies and destitute, Ini Local Government Area visited.

Speaking at the occasion, the wife of the Commissioner of youths and sports, Mrs Blessing Ebong Uko said extending an helping hand to the less privileged in hospitals, motherless Babies home and other destitute centres has become their yearly routine to complement the charitable effort of the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel and his dear wife Martha  Udom Emmanuel.

She said the gesture was in consonant with God's commandment of being a blessing to the poor and needy in the society.

Speaking further, the president charged the children to be obedient to God and their caregivers and make good use of the free and compulsory Education of the State Government to become great leaders in future.

She appluaded the matrons of the homes for their humanitarian services.

In their separate remarks,  the matron of God's Liberty Home, Mrs Mary Okpoyo, the matron of the Salvation Army Children's Home, Mrs Emem Udoobong and Sister Julie Elobuike of the Holy Family Sisters of the needy home for the motherless Babies and destitute, thanked the wives of the Commissioners and Special Assistance for making the season worthwhile for the children.

In their response, some of the children Itoro Usoro,  Mary Jackson, Emmanuel Essien,  Patrick  Iniobong amongst others expressed their heartfelt gratitude to COSAWA for their show of love and prayed God to bless them.

Meanwhile, sister Julie Elobuike lamented the high rate of maternal death attributed the situation to lack of accessing medical facilities, opined that women should be properly enlighten on the dangers of risking their lives in the hands of traditional birth attendance and church members during delivery.

High point of the event was the donation of foodstuffs, toiletries, wrapper materials, shoes, live goats and donation of cash for the children.
